Are you using Firefox 5.0?
Then you can get CSS Viewer for Firefox 5.0 here: CSSViewer for Firefox 5.0 v. 1.0.3

After a 4 months delay Firefox 4 is here!

CSS Viewer (a must-have add-on for all web developers) is not compatible (at least official) with Firefox 4.0.

Good news! Following the same procedure as in my previous posts, Install CSSViewer add-on in Firefox 3.6.* and Install CSSViewer add-on in Firefox 3.5.* you can install CSS Viewer in Firefox 4.0.*

Just follow these steps:

1. Copy the following address to another browser than Firefox (so that the pop up installation window will not come out)

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/cssviewer/

2. Download the file cssviewer-1.0.3-fx.xpi

3. Use 7-zip (or any other extractor) to open it and extract it

4. Open install.rdf with notepad (I used Notepad++ to find easily the line I must change)

5. On line 18 you see <em:maxVersion>3.0.*</em:maxVersion> you must change it to <em:maxVersion>4.0.*</em:maxVersion>

6. Save the file and select all the files you extracted and make a zip file

7. Now you must rename the zip file including the zip extension to cssviewer-1.0.3-fx.xpi (it will prompt you if you are sure you want to change the file name extension and you must click yes)

8. Now drag n’ drop the xpi file to Firefox 4.0.* and the installation window will pop up. Install it normally

I have checked it and it works great in Firefox 4.0

You can download a .xpi file I created and checked that it works fine with Firefox 4.0.
Download: CSSViewer for Firefox 4.0 v. 1.0.3

If you have any question or difficulty installing the add-on please comment.

Streamyx technology relies on ADSL. To provide high speed connection, ADSL relies on unused frequency bands of your telephone cable. A twisted pair copper cable can carry analog voice as well as digital signals simultaneously. The diagram below shows the bandwidth available for a typical telephone cable.

Red block: Analog voice signals. Your normal voice calls are allocated to a maximum of 4kHz.
Green block: Digital Upstream signals. For uploading data to your ISP.
Blue block: Digital Downstream signals. For downloading data from your ISP.
Notice that blue block is larger than green block. Because ADSL users typically download data more than upload, ISPs will allocate a bigger portion of bandwidth for downloading. That’s why your Streamyx download speed is much higher than upload speed.

Downstream traffic is located at the far end of your cable frequency range. Low quality cables cannot provide the entire frequency spectrum and will severely degrade downstream capacity. That’s why some customers have full upload speeds but crippled download speeds.

Analysing signal quality

Using an Alcatel Speechtouch 510 DSL modem and Alcatool, you can analyse the quality of your phone line as shown below. One single bar represents a 4.3kHz slot.

This graph is split into Up and Down portions. Higher bars means better signal quality. In this example, the DSL signal starts from 138kHz and above. Notice that on the far right portion (966kHz) the signal starts to drop. This could due to signal loss, distance from HQ or other attenuation issues.

Overall, this chart represents a very high quality DSL signal. The maximum physical attainable speed is about 10Mbps due to short distance to Telekom exchange(about 3km). This is the best signal quality I’ve got back in 2003.

Simple signal quality measurement for everyone

Your DSL modem that came with Streamyx could probably do simple signal quality analysis. Although it can’t provide data to reproduce a complex chart like the above, you can tell the signal quality by looking at the following parameters. You need to login to your modem homepage to get these statistics.

Parameter

Description

DS Margin, US Margin, SNR Margin

Downstream and Upstream margin. Measured in decibels (dB).Represents the signal quality for both download and upload traffic. The higher of these values, the better is the quality. Very similar to Signal-to-noise ratio measurements in audio.

DS, US Line Attenuation

Downstream and Upstream attenuation. Measured in decibels (dB).Represents how much signal blockage (attenuation). The lower of these values, the less blockage to the signal.

US Rate (kbps), DS Rate (kbps), download rate, upload rate

Measured in kilobits/sec. Represents the modulated download and upload speed of your connection. The higher of these values, the better. Such speed is set on the Telekom exchange (DSLAM). Telekom technicians call this: Jumpling the port speed at DSLAM.This MAY NOT represent the real download/upload speed of your Streamyx account, as TMnet employs a secondary traffic shapping to control speeds for each Streamyx account.

Distance versus speed

Basic rule of the thumb: the nearer you are to the Telekom DSLAM, the better it is for your Streamyx connection. From Wikipedia, here’s a rough guide of wiring distance versus maximum data rate:

25 Mbit/s at 1,000 feet (~300 m)

24 Mbit/s at 2,000 feet (~600 m)

23 Mbit/s at 3,000 feet (~900 m)

22 Mbit/s at 4,000 feet (~1.2 km)

21 Mbit/s at 5,000 feet (~1.5 km)

19 Mbit/s at 6,000 feet (~1.8 km)

16 Mbit/s at 7,000 feet (~2.1 km)

1.5 Mbit/s at 15,000 feet (4.5 km)

800 kbit/s at 17,000 feet (~5.2 km)

Most customers who are using Basic 384k or 512k packages will not have much problems regarding physical connection speeds. The real problem starts with 1Mbps packages and above if their phone lines distance is almost 5km and beyond.

Have you ever having trouble to load a programs and getting popup of missing D3dx9_34.dll ? And you know you have DirectX 9.0c installed but still having problems, reinstalling DirectX 9 from M*soft would not start.

I finally found a way to fix this.

A few simple steps.

1. Download DirectX from M*soft

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=0cef8180-e94a-4f56-b157-5ab8109cb4f5

2. Let say you save it in C:\downloads, run this in command prompt

3. Go to C:\temp, now you will have a lot of CAB files. Our focus is this file JUN2007_d3dx10_34_x86.cab.

4. Extract ( double click)& drag all the files inside JUN2007_d3dx10_34_x86.cab, into a new folder: C:\dx34 (create new folder if you don’t have it).

5. In C:\DX34 folder , right click d3dx10_34_x86_xp.inf , select Install.

Done.

Now try to run your application or game once more. It should fixed it.

Mozilla has launched its latest browser, Firefox 3.5, and at first glance it appears to be an improvement with solid reviews. It certainly is speedier, but the broader question is whether the Firefox can adjust as a 300 pound gorilla.

Firefox has gained about 3 percentage points to 22.5 percent in market share, according to Net Applications’ statistics since July 2008, and Firefox backer Mozilla doubtless hopes for more gains with Tuesday’s release of Firefox 3.5. But Apple’s Safari and Google’s Chrome each gained 2 percentage points, to 8.4 percent and 1.8 percent, respectively, indicating a growing appetite for alternatives to Internet Explorer that’s not completely met by Firefox. Opera stayed flat at about 0.7 percent. ( I use both version 9 and 10, slim and fast)

Features include better JavaScript performance, a new wipe clean porn Private Browsing Mode, native support for open video and audio and something Mozilla has Orwellishly dubbed Location Aware Browsing.

Mozilla wheeled out the all-important speed stats today as well. It claimed that Firefox 3.5 was “more than two times faster” than its predecessor, and “ten times faster than Firefox 2 on complex websites.”

The browser can be downloaded here and Mozilla has the full skinny on what’s new here.

Notes : At this moment, Firefox 3.5 still not compatible with Real Player Browser Record plugin addon. Not sure when Real will have a compatible updates, I am really looking forward for it.

firefox-real-browser-record-plugin

Latest Updates: It seems like Real.com have release and update that fix this problem. Now everything works with Real Browser download plugin in Firefor 3.5

Now back to Firefox 3.1.13, current 3.5 firefox is having with Javascript apps.

Use it like a printer in Word, StarCalc or any other Windows application.
We are proud to announce the release of PDFCreator 0.9.8
Again, we have some improvements
* Uses GPL-Ghostscript 8.64 now.
* Improved PDF/A compatibility.
* New output format SVG (experimental)
* Improved check for updates on PDFCreator.
* Improved COM interface
* plus small fixes and improvements

Some of the users comments

“I would strongly recommend that one does not install this version of PDFCreator. Even if I didn’t choose to install the toolbar, it installed pdfforge Toolbar. Now, all 404s are redirected to urlseek20.vmn.net. You can search the web and find out the headaches people have had with urlseek20.vmn.net.”

Here I summarize my findings on this issue.

Symptoms

Navigating to a non-existing website, which would otherwise deliver a 404 Cannot be found error, redirects to a Yahoo-partnered search at urlseek20.vmn.net.

How to remove this malware

Open Add/Remove Programs by going to Control Panel in Windows.
Uninstall the PDFforge toolbar.

Cause

Installing PDFCreator also installs the PDFforge toolbar, which affects 404 URL navigations in Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.

Alternative to PDF Creator, you can try DoPDF (lightweight and fast).
